How did I become a Quad??? (Part 1)
It's not easy for me to explain about my condition. It isn't because it hurts my feelings but because of the manner in which it all happened. I was 13 years old at the time. One day I was playing gymnastics on my bed. I landed awkward on my neck and it hurt. I did not think too much about it at the time. I just thought it was a muscle problem or something like that.
The next day we all went to river for some swimming. It was a wonderful day. We were having the best time. My brother was with me along with my cousin. A tugboat came along and I decided to swim to it, along with a friend so we could grab the ropes to be pulled along. I was not a good swimmer but I was always very brave and crazy. I grabbed the side of the boat and the force from it made my already injured neck break. The results of this action caused a bone in my neck to press against my spinal cord. Fortunately, I was strong enough to swim away from the boat and wait for my brother. He gave me a float and I somehow managed to make it back to shore.
When I got to the shore, I could not feel my left hand. By the time we got home, my right hand was the same. This continued throughout my body.
How did I become a Quad??? (Part 2)
At first I was admitted to a local hospital but my mother thought that my condition warranted much more intensive treatment. I was transferred to Sirirad Hospital in Bangkok. A dear and respected friend of my parents had a close friend that worked there and thought it would be best.
At first, the doctors thought that they would operate but they soon decided against that because the percentage for recovery was so low. I stayed there for 5 months and 17 days. Most of my time was spent doing my physical therapy. After that I was placed in Sena Hospital, here in Ayutthaya. I cannot remember how long I was in Sena hospital but when I left there I came home.
Since my neck's broken, I've stopped studying (at school) and never went back to school anymore. This is the part I feel sorry the most because I think if I have any degrees, maybe I could do anything worthier than just laying in bed all day.
